Café de Flore : official trailer (English)

"The title "Cafe de Flore" refers not to the famous Boulevard St-Germain café, but to a musical theme running through the film that connects the characters in 1960s Paris to those in present-day Montreal."

This film looks incredible. I can't wait until it reaches stateside x

Luisa Saenz in Diane Pernet

Net Luisa three quart white

Luisa Saenz

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Today Luisa Saenz, ASVOFF Mexico City, came over to discuss our project together. While she was here I got the idea that probably the only two remaining DP' dresses would probably look great on her. It was a perfect fit. You would have thought they had been fitted on her.

Luisa in black dp

DP's come to life again is a pleasure for me. Not that I ever want to get back into designing, I don't. None the less it's great to see the clothes come alive.

Nick Walker left his mark on the shutters of the Double Seven 63 Gansevoort street

XNick Walker on Gansevoort street

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Nick Walker just finished his first piece on the shutters yesterday, it took two days to paint. The vandal is pouring on the city and the girl has stepped in the red paint creating her oven Louboutins which is why she has a speech bubble saying:

"c'est parfait"

the piece is on the front of The Double Seven 63 Gansevoort street MPD.

Gossip - Move In The Right Direction

5 Days remaining for you TO SUBMIT YOUR FILM FOR - ASVOFF MILAN - OPEN CALL - ONE MINUTE FILM- BRIEF: DESTINY-DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: MAY 31TH

Visit www.asvoff.com and download the submission form. The deadline for Milan is May 31th.

MAKE SURE YOUR FILM IS ONE MINUTE....PEOPLE ARE SENDING IN UNDER 5....ONE MINUTE + OR MINUS CREDITS.

And if you need a little advice:

30 Ways to Win ASVOFF

1.  Remember that this is our chance to get up close and personal.  So make us something personal.

2.  Grab the attention of your viewer in the first 30 seconds of the film.  Don’t wait.

3.  Do not use the mirror effect.  Please just don’t.

4.  Colored smoke isn’t really all that impressive.  Really -- reconsider.

5.  Sometimes, a little comedy can be a clever way to seduce people who are starved of humor in fashion.

6.  Never forget that what you’re creating is a film.  It is not a photo shoot in motion.

7.  Work closely with a composer to support your images with a fitting score.

8.  Fashion must be the protagonist of your film.

9.  Have your film take us somewhere we’ve never been.

10.  Develop a unique aesthetic for your film.  Know when to contrast and when to complement.  Consider the raw and the refined.

11.  A clear scenario helps, especially if the film is more than 3 minutes.

12. Invest in and have immense respect for good technicians.  They are a rare breed.

13.  A genius film editor is a huge asset.

14.  Sound is a key player in any film; pay close attention to it.

15. Get the best director of photography you can find.

16.  If you need actors, then don’t ask models to play their roles --  not unless they can really act.

17.  Evoke powerful emotions.  Loud isn’t always powerful.  Subtlety can be.

18.  A director certainly doesn’t  have to come from the fashion world to make an outstanding fashion film.

19.  Someone famous either in front of or behind the camera can be a big boost.  But it’s not for everyone and not for every film.

20.  Think carefully about the rhythm of the film.

21.  Consider the subtext of the film. Superficiality can be fun or funny but subtext adds depth and dimension.

22. The director of the film should be the right fit for the fashion you’re trying to capture.

23.  If the film moves the audience, then it is a success.

24.  Leave your viewers wanting more.

25.  Know when to cut.  There’s nothing worse than a film that leaves you waiting for it to end.  Sometimes, less really is more.

26.  Take my breath away.

27.  Predictability is the biggest turn-off.

28.  Leave room for spontaneity but, for heaven’s sake, have some sort of plan.

29.  Snag a brilliant art director.

30.  Always respect the time limit.

 +

31. Do not heavily grade the image to compensate for the fact you don't know how to light.

Accreditation and how many go to Cannes and actually watch the films?

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I sometimes wonder how many people that are accredited actually go to Cannes to watch the films, or rather how many that are accredited have the opportunity to get in to the projections considering 200,000 are accredited and there is only a possibility of 3,000 a day getting into the screening rooms...

The Be Next Contest held at the Batumi Georgia Palace Hotel

Be-next-contest

May 30th to 4th June 2012 in Batumi at the Georgia Palace Hotel

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I am kind of dreading a  a 6h45 am flight from Vienna , a plane to Istanbul, another one to Batumi and then a long drive...but I am looking forward to judging the fashion and young talents Be Next Contest. The beautiful SofiaTchkonia organized an excellent jury to judge the young talent. The fashion and art agency Societe Anonyme supports the 7th edition of Be Next. I, for one, am looking forward to a little Double Trouble time with my dear friend, Robb Young. The two of us will be hiding from the sun while others, no doubt, will be seeking it.

Silent souls a film by Aleksei Fedorchenko ,text Stefania Seoni

Dear Diane , dear shaded viewers,

I just returned from the preview  with the  film director Aleksei Fedorchenko, the movie has finally found distribution in Italy after screening at the Venice Film Festival two years ago.

After Miron’s beloved wife Tanya passes away, he asks his best friend Aist to help him say goodbye to her according to the rituals of the Merja culture, an ancient Finno-Ugric tribe from Lake Nero, a region in West-Central Russia .Two men set out on a roadtrip , thousands of miles across the boundless lands. With them, two small birds in a cage.

exciting, poetic and touching. The great Director expresses himself through powerful images, magnetic photography, working with the universal theme of love.
