Karen Binns, a talent you should know

Dear Shaded Viewers,

For those of you that don't know you know the work of stylist Karen Binns, she is the one responsible for giving Tori Amos her look over the past 10 years.  Tori sang at the last Viktor and Rolf show.

I don's see Karen that much but it is truly a pleasure every time that I do.I guess you could say that we go back to  NYC in the 80's.  She even said that she worked a season for me years ago.She started her career assisting Zoe who worked a lot with  Judy Blame. Karen was a club kid from NYC with a great look and that look is what brought her work that she did not even know she was looking for.  Karen likes working with real people so that she can give them the confidence that they did not know they had. Her advice to emerging stylists is, "Don't say yes to a client until you've sat down and had a coffee with them."

Karen is currently putting together a new magazine for the youth culture called Concrete it will cover London, Paris, NYC and Tokyo. The magazine is focused on the subcultures, she wants to know what it is like to be Korean or Chinese in Japan or Polish in London. Concrete is going to have a student body voice. Personally I cannot wait to see what she comes up with. She will be the creative director and the backbone of the magazine.

Later,

Diane

P.S. Click on SHowStudio today to see the beginning stages  of their new project Amaze Me. The project got it's impulse from the famous quote when Alexi Brodovitch told Richard Avedon to "Inspire Me". The project will be launched in September.

I had the opportunity to meet Karen when I first arrived in London and I was doing an internship and I ran into her again at the I love Brick Lane fashion show but I could not find her contact information. I have been wanting to contact her and now that I know she has a magazine in the works I feel more urgency for me to connect with her again. If anyone has any contact information for her please, please forward it to me. Thanks.

I had an idea for a fashion design that could be used for a RAINN benefit. The idea is "the power of orange knickers", being that Karen Binns could design orange knickers ranging from 50's style briefs to ruffled pantaloons with The Power of Orange Knickers embroidered or printed on the tush, along with a Tori Amos isignia of some sort. Then the sale could be through EverythingTori.com and part of the proceeds could benefit RAINN. Just a thought! Holly Almond, a fan of Tori and of Karen! Thanks for your time.

I love Tori Amos but had never heard of Karen Binns. Now I know where Tori's great cowgirl outfits come from. I discovered your blog a few weeks ago and I'm addicted to it. Thank you to share your discoveries with us.

Did you know if there is an audio recording of Tori Amos performance at the V&R show?
I heard only a sample of this track on TV, and I adored, it was sublime.
