The house where James lives
Dear Shaded Viewers,
James Goldstein's three story villa was originally built in the l960's. He bought the house designed by John Lautner in l972 and has been remodelling it ever since. He believes that architecture should constantly be evolving and always has scale models that architects pupose for the next transformation. He worked closely on the house with John Lautner until his death and is a firm believer in big ideas and a big imagination. From the bedroom you have a 180 degree panoramic view of downtown Los Angeles. Gigantic glass walls give a view of the swimming pool and the ocean. One of the glass walls is the wall behind Gentlemen Jim's bed. Imagine what that must be like when someone is swimming in it. I asked Cherry Vanilla and Arlene Pachasa to go and visit so that I could have a nice document of how I would dream to live.

Liz Goldwyn-jewerlry
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I met Liz Goldwyn when I was in Los Angeles, she played a set of twins in Jeremy Scott's film Starring that was part of You Wear it Well's screening in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Copenhagen, and on September 7 - 30th, will be a part of the installation at MoMu, Antwerp. After graduating from the School of Visual arts in NYC Liz worked for art director Fabien Baron's company doing production and design work on fashion campaigns among other things. She also worked with Magnum photographer Gilles Peress on the edit, layout and design of his books, catalogs and special projects including Mass Graves of Bosnia. Liz was hired by Sotheby's newly created Fashion Department and among other things she introduced younger contemporary artists and designers and photographers such as one of my favorites, William Klein, to the auction market in her curatorial role with the Fashion Dept. After she left the Fashion Department in late 1999, Liz still worked for Sotheby's conceptualizing and producing several exhibitions in LA: a costume exhibition with Chanel and an installation of video art by Mariko Mori.
Liz sponsored and produced fashion shows for Susan Cianciolo, and other designers while working as a global consultant for Shiseido America. She used to write for French Vogue and in 2002 Liz launched her line of one of a kind jewelry, sold at Barneys New York, LA, and Japan, Colette in Paris...

THe copper collection is made of copper nugget from old california mining copper circa 1900. The concept comes from the story of how mining camp prostitutes were paid for their services for the evening: there would be a double sided scale on the bar. The lady would stand on one side, and the miners, reaching into their pockets for gold nuggets would place them o the other. When the scales were even, the price for the night was confirmed-hence the expression "worth your weight in gold."

Liz's major project for the last eight years has been a documentary film, Pretty Things, on the topic of burlesque queens. Additionally, Liz has amassed an extensive collection of burlesque costumes from l900-1960 as well as textile and related material. Pretty Things premiered on HBO in July 2005 and on CBC in 2006. Liz's book on burlesque, Pretty THings, will be published by Harper Collins/Regan Books and will be out in the US Oct 24th and internationally Nov 24th - its the first book about the history of burlesque costume and the queens who wore them.
Currently the colletion is sold in Paris at Colette, in L A at Kaviar & Kind, Barneys in NY and Ikram in Chicago. Liz has also created pieces for the upcoming film "Running with Scissors" for Annette Bening, which is based on Augustyn Burroughs memoirs.

Tensta Konsthall - Stockholm
Dear Shaded Viewers,
The current exhibition at Tensta Konsthall is Carl Fredrik Hill who was born in 1849 the same year the writer August Strindberg was born. In their lives both Car Fredrik and August were going to paint and write in ways never seen in Sweden before. This was the first time the gallery exhibited someone that was not a contemporary. The space was totally covered in leopard and made you feel extremely comfortable. I've never seen an art space, or any other space for that matter, completely in leopard.
