designers' Xmas trees for charity "100 alberi d'autore"
Dear Shaded Viewers,
There was a big party tonight at the Palazzo Reale in Milan, the reason? A charity sale of designers' Xmas trees called "100 alberi d'autore" http://www.ilnataledei100alberidautore.net/

Beniamino Marini designed the leather button tree, next to him is Clorinda Covino, the company heiress.
Beniamino Marini's leather Christmas tree (360 hand made buttons in leather and a base that is made of upholstered suede white soft leather). Beniamino created this for an italian fashion brand called .it (they also do a show catwalk during milan fashion week).
If you want to place your order, bids start at 2,600 EUROS and the money goes to cancer research for children.

If Gold had a fragrance - comme des garcons 8 88
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Now the secret of 8 88 can be revealed, IF GOLD HAD A FRAGRANCE...
The press was invited to the Vinyl Factory so that all could be revealed.
Gold throughout the ages has always had mythic connotations.
Who hasn't dreamed of finding gold, a precious symbol of health, wealth and happiness...
Adding amber for its colour, and incense and patchouli for their ritualistic significance and many other ingredients to create the imaginary smell of gold.
The process was by its very nature arbitrary, ruled by the senses.
The result is the romanticization of GOLD.
Think...
Gold seqins locked within rock crystal in suspended animation. Gold nuggets found in the mountain stream. Quartz with its thredas of brilliantly cloloured minerals.
Gold as found in its natural and pure state, mythical and magical, but how would it smell?
The journey began with Safraleine, a molecular derivation of saffron and then composed a poem around it, bringing together ingredients of the highest quality such as the essence of Pepperwood and curcuma, the finest coriander, the most luxurious geranium.

Kenneth Anger Interview - On Magick and Film Commentary
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Meet the man hear about Dream Logic, how Jean Cocteau awarded his film a prize for a poetic film. "Your work comes from the dark night of the soul. Jean Cocteau. In 1950 Anger went to France and met Cocteau, Genet and Colette and Henri Langlois who offered him a job as his assistant. The first of his films I ever saw was Scorpio Rising and was hungry for everything he did since then.

British Fashion Awards 2007
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Zoe Ball played master of ceremonies at the Lawrence Hall in Westminster for the British Fashion Awards.
Dame Vivienne Westwood received the Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fashion Design in recognition for revolutionising fashion. Since the 1970s Westwood has developed a global business and created timeless collections that continue to challenge and inspire. Actually the reason that I am in London is because I was a member of the jury for the selection of the designer to be awarded for outstanding achievement . Vivienne is never short on dialogue, she wanted to keep it light but felt compelled to point out the fact that if we do not pay attention to our environment we soon will not have any air to breath. She looked amazing, wants to use her authority beyond the boundries of fashion, unfortunately I did not take a photo of her on the stage nor when she was outside and fell into the arms of Marios Schwab, or rather he caught her in his arms to keep her from falling. Robb was there but I had the camera, he said it was quite sweet.

I did however get a picture of the beautiful Agyness Deyn who received the model of the year award wearing a Giles Deacon dress and receiving her award while talking on her mobile to her mom. Her mom actually had no idea of the awards ceremony and was in the middle of her own private party at home.Cool is the only word one could use to describe this exceptional beauty.

Mandi Lennard and Cassette Playa and Gareth Pugh and Dazed and Confused. Carrie was up for the menswear designer award against Alexander McQueen and Christopher Bailey for Burberry. Christopher won. Gareth was up for the New Designer award against Christopher Kane and Marios Schwab. Christopher Kane received the award.

DP with Marios Schwab, winner of the 100,000 EUROS Swiss Textiles Award and BFC's Anna Orsini and Rubbish, that is the name of the hilarious publication, not an insult. Jenny Dyson's issue 2 of Rubbish was in our goodie bag. It takes itself very lightly as is quite obvious by it's title. Imagine a fashion publication in Paris calling itself Rubbish?

Erdem was awarded the BFC Fashion Enterprise Award sponsored by Swarovski. In its second year, the £50,000 prize will enable him to continue funding collections and expansion of the brand. He was over the moon and said it was completely unexpected. British Fashion Council's Anna Orsini and Robb Young and I.

Pop Magazine's Katie Grand and front row VIP in pink.

Roksanda and Lulu Kennedy and Agyness Deyn and Henry Holland

Marios Schwab and friend in Marios and old friends Steven Jones with Leslie Chilks

Lulu Kennedy and Roksanda Ilincic and Robb Young
The award for Fashion Creator was renamed this year in honour of the late Isabella Blow and was presented by Philip Treacy and Detmar Blow to award winner Michael Howells. Anya Hindmarch was awarded the accolade of Designer Brand. Other winners were the Marc Jacobs shop, the Red Carpet Designer which went to Marchesa, Harvey Weinstein was on hand for this event, The Accessory Designer went to Tom Binns and the Designer of the Year Award which went to Stella McCartney.
There was an afterparty, Robb went, I did not.

A visit chez Boudicca as they prepare to do the Christams tree for the V & A Museum
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I am in London for the British Fashion Awards which takes place tonight. It was my first trip on the faster by 20 minutes Eurostar which arrived in the St. Pancras International Station, which looks quite lovely except they forgot to open a currency exchange and there are no cash machines yet, but hey, looks great.

If you are in London from December 10th through the holidays, visit the Victoria and Albert Museum and see their beautiful Boudicca Christmas tree, what follows is the work in progress from the glass eyes to the angel wings and the mini corset.

On Saturday December 1st (World AIDS Day) ‘Designers against AIDS’ is launching their new website www.designersagainstaids.com that willl have pages in 7 languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. On the same day their brandnew AIDS awareness clip, directed by Mick Traen, will be shown for the very first time and on http://en.dawanda.com/shop/designersagainstaids a special Christmas Charity auction will start where the public can bid on cell phones customized by celebrities such as the popular band Scissor Sisters, avantgarde designer Bernhard Willhelm, elektro singer Peaches, chic eco brand Noir and contemporary artist André.
DAA wil be present at World AIDS Day events in Brussels (Place de la Monnaie, from 11 AM- 5 PM- (http://www.preventionsida.org) and Antwerp (Modenatie, Nationalestraat 28, 2000 Antwerp-(http://www.momu.be/ modenatie/).
In both locations the public will be able to purchase DAA T-shirts from earlier collections at 20€ each, get a red AIDS ribbon to show their solidarity and find leaflets with more information about our work. We hope to see you there!
Designers Against AIDS (DAA) is a project of non-profit organisation Beauty Without Irony and was founded in 2004 to raise AIDS awareness in the international media and towards the general public, more specifically towards young people in the industrialised countries. We do this by asking famous and emerging fashion designers, musicians, artists and other celebrities to create designs that we then print on items such as T-shirts, sweaters, bags, hoodies, condom boxes, ring binders, etc. The T-shirts and sweaters of all DAA collections are made of organic cotton in a Fair Trade community in India with the help of German company Sense Organics. The DAA logo -that is part of every item- features our website url, enabling people to find recent information on HIV/AIDS on the 'Links' page. We also take part in events, exhibitions, fairs and festivities and collaborate with interested artists, organisations and brands - drawing more attention to the cause as we go.

Springtime in Buenos Aires by Glenn Belverio
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Because Diane has taken me on so many vicarious trips to places I've never been via this site, I'm returning the favor with some shots from my recent trip to Buenos Aires--a city she's always wanted to visit. (I'll post more later this week.) As you can see above, it was sunny and warm in the "Paris of South America", with the trees in bloom in the plaza of San Martin. I made this trip to BA after attending the Minas Gerais Trends Preview in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Above: I took a picture of this skyscraper in San Martin because I liked the shape of it and later found out that it's the famous Edificio Kavanagh, an art deco landmark. When it was built in 1935, it was the tallest building in South America.
Above: Street art in San Telmo. San Telmo was my favorite neighborhood because it reminded me of being in Centro Habana/Habana Vieja in Cuba. As in Havana, the people in Buenos Aires are outstandingly friendly and sweet. I think every New Yorker should be required to spend a week in BA so they will learn that it's not necessary to go through life being a rude, pushy bitch. They'll also find out what good--really good--pizza tastes like. It was better than any pizza I had in Italy. Because of immigration, there is a lot of Italian influence in BA. The people speak Spanish with an Italian accent.
A day without Che is like a day without sunshine. When I arrived in BA, I stayed at a gay bed and breakfast in Microcentro where every room was named after a famous Argentinean. There was Maradona, Borges, and of course Evita, which had a balconey that looked out over the street. And then of course there was the Che room. Being both a fashionista and a commie (I'm an Oscar Wildean Socialist, after all) I was torn between wanting to stay in the Evita or Che room. The Evita room was much nicer (shocker) but an irritating straight couple was staying there. (Funny enough, for a gay bed and breakfast, I seemed to be the only fag staying there.) So it was the Che room for me. The room was clean and well decorated but there was no window and the walls were paper thin--allowing me to hear everything the staff was saying and doing, especially while I was trying to take a nap. And worst of all, I wasn't allowed to bring any guests back to my room! After canoodling with a young Argentinean at a sauna and then a handsome Brazilian at an after-hours sex club called Tom's (although everything seems to be after hours in BA)--both of whom I couldn't bring back to my room--I was fed up, so moved to a hotel. The Argentinean lived way outside the city (I wasn't up for a trip) and didn't speak a speck of English. The Brazilian was from Brasilia, the fantastic city built by Communist architect Oscar Niemeyer (he turns 100 next month). I thought it was odd that my Brazilian didn't even know that Niemeyer was still alive, but even worse was the fact that he was staying at a $9 per night youth hostel called The Madhouse where they put 12 people to a room. It made Abu Ghraib look like a Phillipe Starck luxury condominium. He was 34 years old and worked for the Brazilian government - I guess the gig doesn't pay well? At any rate, at least we had some semi-privacy at Tom's (if you don't count the gawkers peering through the glory holes...ah, the romance of Buenos Aires!)
If you've ever seen the brilliant Wong Kar-Wai film, "Happy Together" (I'll choose a steamy booth at Tom's over the misery of the film's gay protagonists any day) you'll recognize the location above. This is the tango bar that the super-sexy Tony Leung worked at while he and his hustler boyfriend (played by the late, great Leslie Cheung) were going through one of their many breakups. I had planned on visiting a few locations from the film, such as the Chino Central restaurant, but just never got around to it.
That's all for now, but I have tons of more photos and will try to report again.
Love,

A FEW MUSICIANS BY BENIAMINO MARINI FOR KULT MAGAZINE
Dear D. and S-viewers,
In september I was asked to draw a few celebrities for an italian magazine. I chose 4 kids from the music scene (without talking with anybody at L'Uomo Vogue, I swear...)

1) this is Joan as Policewoman wearing a Mr Freedom t-shirt by Diana
Crawshaw and a pair of Biba platform lace ups. Joan is in New York as
you can see through the little window on the right...

2) Beth Ditto, from the Gossip, whom I recently met in Milan (and
originally, I dont know why, I thought was from London, that's why you
see the Foster building in the window) is playing with a Marathon
Vintage Adidas (from Rome's Olympics in 1960) and with a couple of Bart
Simpson Qee.
3) Xavier de Rosnay and Gaspard Augé from Justice are playing with some
Vitra wooden dolls by Alexandre Girard and riding the Sella Chair
(sella means saddle) by Giacomo Castiglioni for Zanotta. They are of
course in Paris: can you see la Défense?

4) And as a happy end, Justin Timberlake is waiting someone to tie his
wrists to the ankles (I was probably thinking of the Alpha Dog movie or
something like that) wearing a Burberry's "Fashion for relief" t-shirt,
standing on a Mezzadro Chair by Castiglioni for Zanotta. He's in L.A.
Thanks to Giada from Kult for the choice of accessories, clothes, objects

Rozalb de Mura - „A cracked smile and a silent shout"-fashion from Romania
Dear Sahaded Viewers,
Rozalb de Mura - „A cracked smile and a silent shout"
(menswear/womenswear)
For the fall-winter 07 / 08 collection „A cracked smile and a silent shout" from Rozalb de Mura, Olah Gyarfas took a plunge in the strange and dark universe of The Knife group. In a surrealist present or maybe from a primitive uncertain future, Rozalb de Mura coldly analyzes a contemporary fairytale world, inhabited by lonely souls, ghosts and weird divas.
Naturally, the artificial with its endless possibilities comes forth in this avant-garde, electro glamour and technically detailed collection. High-tech fabrics feature shiny fibres or a metallic, cold glimmer. Extravagant mixtures of electric blue, fluorescent green and silver in enlarged cuts bow in an ironically-provocative reverence towards the '80s. Everything cooled down by a breeze from a robotized, alien future.
To appease the future-electro exuberance, Rozalb de Mura introduces a parallel series that could belong to the generous realm of the classical, from the precious materials – wool and cashmere, to the sober colours – black, white, grey and beige. The refined severity of the pieces is benignly deterred by an unexpected twist - a detachable inset, terribly exciting perforations on the back of some simple dresses, fake pleats on a gracious and quiet coat à la Audrey Hepburn. For the subtle look of a sexy, contemporary and humorous aristocrat.
