HYERES 2007 CATWALK
Dear Shadies and Shadettes,
As it may have occurred to the most dedicated of you, we haven't released yet our annual Hyeres Fashion Festival film thingy, and though we did make daily, on-the-spot video podcasts during the festival, there's nothing quite as satisfying as a full-length feature.
That full-length feature, codename "HYEROGLYPH", which Diane and I have been toiling on, is sitting in a cozy spot on a hard drive, awaiting a few finishing touches, the last key elements yet to be handed in by some collaborators (you know who you are). So it is very near completion, and hopefully it is only a matter of days before we release it.
And let us say, in all modesty, that once we do release it, it will be nothing short of brilliant.
So to help you wait a bit more, and a sort of end of year treat, I thought you may want to have a look at the properly edited Hyeres 2007 Catwalk shows, showing you the work of all 10 designers in competition at the last edition. Diane was in Hyeres just 2 weeks ago, along with Haider Ackermann and Maida, working on the pre-selection of the designers for the next edition.
Enjoy,
Antoine

BYREDO - Ben Gorham creator of perfumes
Dear Shaded Viewers,
On one of my trips to Stockholm a few years ago I met Ben Gorham. I was there as a jury member for +46 and the ex-Basketball player turned perfumer, was my personal guide. Berns, the old world hotel where I was staying was kitted out with all of his Swedish fragrance/home ammenities line which were quite exotic and included a black soap, a lovely body lotion and a shampoo and conditioner. He calls his products "alternative fragrances for the modern mind."

To celebrate the end of the year (and as a bit of a Christmas present to you lot) we raided our bloglines, del.icio.us accounts and bookmarks to bring you our definitive list of the top 100 fashion and lifestyle blogs. All the blogs in the list were chosen by our editors, and we decided to go with personal choices, not lists compiled from stats, technorati profiles and search engine popularity. These are the blogs we recommend in ten areas of style & women's interest. Since they're grouped by topic, obviously they're not in order of favourite - every one deserves to be number one in our book!
1 - 10: Fashion's Big Blog Players (compiled by Kim & Gemma for Catwalk Queen)
10. A Shaded View On Fashion: Diane Pernet's trademark big hair and black mantilla make her hard to miss on the fashion circuit. Her blog follows her life as an industry insider, and is full of exclusive pics, new talent and creativity, and is a must-read if you love to know about the inner workings of the more alternative side of the industry.

Dear SHaded Viewers,
One of my favorite astrology sites, www.astrologyandbeyond.com, offers some words of wisdom.
This week, consider the words of:
Barbara Hall: "Because you are in control of your life. Don't ever forget that you are what you are because of the conscious and subconscious choices you have made."
Marcus Aurelius: "If you are distressed by anything external, the pain is not due to the thing itself, but to your estimate of it; and this you have the power to revoke at any moment."
Friedrich Nietzsche's words: "The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."
Quotations were taken from www.astrologyandbeyond.com.

LOUIGGI JUNIOR IN MOZAMBIQUE
Adam Levin pays a visit to Louiggi Junior's atelier in Maputo.
Why would you leave a job at Etro in Milan and return to your roots in Mozambique? “I saw this woman in Lisbon,” Louiggi Junior recalls. “She was carrying a bag of oranges and I just had a vision to go home to Maputo and find my roots.
We’ve made our way up to the sixteenth floor of a Sixties apartment block, where the Louiggi's atelier is a maze of capulanas (the printed cotton sarongs worn in Mozambique) and enchanted ribbons of organza punctuated by those distinctive Etro stripes. There is no running water but there is white wine and Louiggi is preparing for a show tonight. There will be chocolate boys in dresses, French lads as gladiators and ebony princesses in Louiggi Junior.
We drink the vino branco on the rooftop overlooking the potholed concrete city and it gracious bay. “I like to present the diversity of individuals,” Louiggi expands, while furiously wrapping a yellow capulana around his seamstress, Maria Elisa’s head. “An individual is the richest thing you can be.” Louiggi would know: Half Turkish-half Mozambican, yet infectious with a Latin exuberance. Indeed, soon we’re all at it. I’m traipsing down the stairs in Louiggi’s half suit. Am I 50-50? Am I bisexual? Bi-curious? Or am I hundreds?
Am I not loving finding such gems in this gritty, post-war metropolis. Que boa! I have been judging Mozambique Fashion Week again, down at George Eiffel’s Railway Station and, despite the event’s amazing growth, mostly, its been a tedious parade of chintz flowers and Mozambican flags. And so right now, I’m so loving this rare intuitive mix of tradicion Africana, Etro chic and a tropical vibrancy that yells Latina Ao Viva!
Vamos! I need a portrait of Louiggi. He whips on the half finished organza skirt and rushes to pose at the view, where a breeze breathes an instant's respite respite into the 98 % humidity. One click and we’re done.
