I LOVED LOVED that you posted the image of Merce. His collaborations with John Cage and Rauschenberg in the 50's and 60's using Cage's chance principles were iconic...they totally changed what a performance could be. I really wish I'd been around to see them. I can't believe I never got to see him in action.

Merce Cunningham did show his dancers till the last possible moment how do dance himself before arthritis made it impossible. What a great dancer himself, what a fabulous choreographer always pushing the limits of the possible. Reï Kawakubo did some costumes for one of his ballets at the Chatelet in Paris a few years ago on the them of the body deformation and it was incredible how the dancers could still dance and how it would affect the whole piece...
