Closing ceremony at the 50th edition of Zinebi in Bilbao

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Laida Lertxundi, winner of the Grand Prize of Basque cinema last year with "Footnotes to a House of Love" Thom Andersen, screened his film "Los Angeles Plays Itself" out of competition  and was a jury member he is pictured here with his wife, Christine Chaing at Persuade,
Andersen and wife and winnerEntry

Tonight was the closure of the Zinebi festival. I was asked to give out one of the awards, the silver medal for fiction. It was the longest film in the festival. Antoine Asseraf and I stopped by  Persuade first so we could all go to the event together. While there  we ran into Thom Andersen, one of the 4 members to the jury. He was there with his wife and the winner of one of the awards last year. There was a tribute to  RIchard Lester, the most influential director of the 60's .

Antoine Asseraf Dinner

After the ceremony Rosa, Persuade took Antoine and I to a lovely dinner. So ends our trip to Bilbao, later this afternoon we will go back to Paris. The Guggenheim Museum is amazing, their screening room probably one of the best in the world. Persuade is an amazing shop filled with passion and love. It's one of those places that makes you want to dip into your pocket and buy something. We love Rosa, we love Persuade. The stand

Last full day in Bilbao for Zinebi Film Festival

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Imagine, almost December and we were taking our hot chocolate outside in the square. The festival ends tonight. When Antoine Asseraf and I took our walk this morning the first thing we saw was a poster for Yelle.

P1250218P1250223

We decided to go to the Museum of Fine Arts and when we entered the first person we saw was Rossy de Palma being interviewed about her new perfume, Eau de Protection. It is like a talisman for the skin. It is an incantation to a powerful and mysterious witch's rose. Rossy is as cool and confident as her perfume is enchanting. I've been thinking about the next Film issue of ZOO and now it's clear who I would like to interview. We had met briefly a few years ago in Madrid and then a few years ago in Zurich. When I saw her she gave me a warm greeting and we spoke a little about the idea of her perfume which is about the rose, the throns, the roots, blood and mud. www.etatlibredorange.com. Rossy is the master of ceremonies tonight for the closure of the Zinebi festival.

Everyone wanted a photo with Rossy and she was the coolest, but we already knew that.

Last night Louis Vuitton opened a shop in Bilbao, I loved the window. That is Rosa, Persuade and Antoine and I in the reflection.

Sameer Reddy's column in Newsweek about the Mumbai attacks

Dear Shaded Viewers,

The past few days have been scary for those who with friends and family in Mumbai, and terrifying for tose who are actually in the city. Writing or talking about it won't cange what happened, and I don't know if it will matter in influencing what happens next, but my hope is tat people who make life-and-death decisions in the Indian governmet will err on the side of peace insead of revenge. If you have a moment to read the column, the web address below can be copy/pasted.

Bryanboy Reports From Malaysia International Fashion Week - Part 1

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Greetings! I'm currently here in Kuala Lumpur for the 2008 Malaysia International Fashion Week. It's a fun, festive event held at the newly-opened The Gardens Hotel in the Mid Valley area of KL.

In addition to Malaysian talent, a variety of Asian designers from Thailand to Russia presented their collections since Wednesday. Today is the last day of the shows. I found it very interesting how Malaysia is positioning themselves to be THE hub in showcasing Asian fashion.

Here in KL, I made a friend with Pakistani photographer Tapu Javeri. He's one of the sweetest men I've ever met. Papi Tapu was very generous and kind to provide me runway shots -- photos that are much better than the ones I took using my own camera.

By the way, I love you Sonny V but it doesn't hurt for a boy to have two bearded daddies, especially one who doesn't smoke, drink and whose only vice is dancing to the Spice Girls. :-)

Moving along... the ceremonies started with a spectacular dance show.

I got a kick out of seeing the Diane hat by Bless at Persuade and insisted that Rosa model it for me.

P1250194P1250196P1250200

Found a great knit dress by Zucca but I'd wear it as a jacket. Antoine Asseraf wanted to have a Basque cheese tasting so before going to the PT LOMEO www.ptolomeo.es opening (maps, engravings and globs) Paul took us to a traditional Basque cheese bar.

Then we went to an underground club to hear a band but I got tired of waiting for it to start and we walked back to the hotel.
