Sameer Reddy reports in NEWSWEEK on The Vulgar Game

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Sameer reddy NEWSWEEK

"What do the luxury house of Chanel and bridge-level brand BCBG Max Azria have in common? "

"As upleasant as it might be to accept, greed, avarice and unrestrained lust are built-in elements of the human psyche."

"Captains of the luxury industry, when considering their plan of action, would do well to take to heart this quote from Coco Chanel:  "I love luxury. And luxury lies not in richness and ornateness but in the absence of vulgarity. Vulgarity is the ugliest word in our language. I stay in the game to fight it." Perhaps it's time for them to reconsider why they're in the game."

Later,

Diane

It suprises me that Sameer Reddy of Newsweek is so opinionated in a general way. It is an interesting article, but he writes:

"Until then, the richest segments of society, who played a major role in ruining things for everyone else, are simply paying lip service to a public notion of what is expected of them."

So early in the 'recession' and Sameer is waving his finger so vehemently. Everyone is pointing fingers when things go wrong. 'Les absent sont toujour tort!'

Sounds like the beginnings of another revolution... and the thing that stood out for me in the article is the Coco quote - So thanks for the heads up, as usual - speaking of which:

I love your site and I love your work by the way... I know I may be gushing, but I've never written in these years of following 'Shaded View'. (I used to download the pages and burn them on disks to bring home before I even had internet access at home!!)

Best, dahling!
