SHOJI FUJII reports on the PRIZE WINNERS ! AT THE 24TH EDITION OF THE FESTIVAL HYÈRES

Dear Shaded Viewers

I am proud to announce the prize winners of the Festival Hyères 2009. For the first time ever the same designers,  Marite Mastina & Rolands Peterkops from Latvia,  won both the Grand Jury prize from L'ORÉAL Professionnel  and the 1,2,3 prize. CRYSTALLIZED SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS gave a prize where the sole criteria was creativity which had nothing to do with  a designer using crystals. That was shared between two men's wear designers (another first): Simon-Pierre Toussaint from Belgium and Harald Lunde Helgesen from Norway. The photography prize went to Linus Bill from Switzerland which was a grant for one year at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Last year was so much stronger in my opinion, with Graham Tabor & Olivier Borde/Heath Callender for garde-robe. The women's looked strong to me this year, but appeared to be over-looked, since everybody is so fixated on menswear at present.
