I love the comment below by one of CATHY HORYN's blog viewer, somehow ... suddenly it all makes sense but then as someone else mentioned in the blog NOBODY is IRREPLACEABLE , and that included COCO CHANEL self !... the problem is that we live in an age where REAL TALENT has become just a disposable commodity whose 'VALUE' is measured only by the superficial and hollow VALUES we use as ' STANDARDS ' today, where all that matters is what SHINES just like 'GOLD ' if even for a tiny moment and with the knowledge that it isn't REAL GOLD at all ..... what REALLY matters TODAY is just the ILLUSION .... if just for the sake of PLEASING those who like to be fooled and feel they have it all in exchange for their SUBMISSION ... LOL :):)
Oh well what would the world be today's without the true ' connoisseur ' of aesthetics and taste !!! .... but then when in doubt very luckily we will always have PARIS ... no, not that ' PARIS ' ! ..... LOL !!

" What is great is Lagerfeld’s discipline. He loves what he does. He’s in it for the work, nothing else. You have to respect that, that’s a beautiful notion that’s gotten lost in this get rich, awarded, worshiped by the age of 20, and then retire era. There’s always the work to do, and if you love what you do, you don’t need any incentive beyond the work, and you do it in some form until you absolutely physically or mentally can’t, or until you die. They don’t make ‘em like that anymore. "

Here, official confirmation that Karl Lagerfeld has absolutely NO intention to leave Chanel, straight from the designer via Cathy Horyn:

So a rumor is just a rumor.

Goodness gracious, Fake Karl is no Karl Lagerfeld--the pattern of speech is totally different. And writing blog posts weeks before the upcoming fall/winter haute couture presentation is suscpicious enough. Thank goodness Diane had the wit to refer to the link as by fake Karl.

Kelly, Karl Lagerfeld didn't mention Diane--she made it very clear that it's by Fake Karl.

Oh, the fashion industry wouldn't survive without the rumours (who are we kidding here?) so I take no offense. Sometimes the rumours turn out to be true and sometimes not so I generally take them as a grain of salt.
BTW, just so you know--last time I heard (from a very, very reliable source) Karl is happy with Chanel and the Wertheimer brothers are happy with Karl. And as much as we can debate about Lagerfeld's statements (fashion and otherwise) the man is no fool: Karl turned Chanel's fashion division around and revived the house--why would he leave it to someone else to reap the benefit? For a man who wants to die with his boots firmly on the move makes absolutely no sense. Thus unless the headquarters make a different statement in the near future I shall reserve any judgement on this topic.
I too have also heard of Lagerfeld's lifetime contract with Chanel, but like everything else with the brand these things are masked and double masked so to me it only matters to the parties involved. (And with Chanel being a 100% privately owned family company it's really none of my business.)

If Karl Lagerfeld wrote your name you could consider yourself a person to care about in fashion business. Congrats !

-hi
I really believe Karl should step down. He had done a great job at Chanel, but failed with his recent attempts to evolve the brand further, particularly menswear! I think they will need a true visionary to replace him, which at this point is missing in a candidate like Elbaz. He is a great designer, but Chanel needs to become something very different for the 21st century, and he has too many references to develop it into a powerhouse it has a potential of being again. Personally...I think they should hire me:P.x

No apologies needed.
Keep the gossip coming.

All I can say is I pity the poor person who will eventually fill his shoes. Talk about a tough act to follow! Rarely in the history of fashion has a designer managed to keep things as fresh as Karl Lagerfeld has for so long. He never stops. As a designer myself, I have tremendous admiration for his drive, curiosity, and creativity.

But somehow KARL has managed to keep the LUSTER and the ALLURE of the logo very firm on the ground ... and that is always a more bigger challenge than simply designing to please the ' Fashion hunger ' of the ' discerning ' public ... and as they say, you can never please the whole world ..... that is always the Achilles' heel of those who enter the Lion's den of the top labels .... Karl has proven to be a true GLADIATOR of FASHION .... so let's hope that the next gladiator to enter the arena .... will be able to come out alive and kicking :):) .... but if history of top brands can be used as a compass then that can prove to be harder than anyone may imagine .... Lets hope that Chanel will keep its eyes opened and spot wisely the next ' emperor ' to perpetuate Chanel's reign! :):)

If that is true is true it should happen for good.. Karl can't be forever! New views and ideas on Chanel may lead the brand to another level...

If Karl leaves it will be his choice, like Valentino, YSL, Issey Miyake and other's before him....

Karl always stated that his Chanel contract is for life. Why should he lie?

I'm 31 now...I wonder how many changes will happen by the time I'm 40 in the industry we work in. It's quite scary to see that the winner takes it all but on the other hand I wonder, does one really take it all?

Karl is famous for being a workaholic! I can't imagine why he would want to quit his major activity. Maybe he just wants to keep his job at Fendi and do more photography?

devastated! I hope this aint happening for real!
