Thibaut Estellon NVU's Dennis Cooper

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Dennis Cooper writes novels poetry, plays and has a blog DC, among other things. Today, for those of you that read French,  I can recommend  a good read . If you do not, pay a visit the Time Out NYC and read the review on his latest book, Ugly Man or read about Dennis Cooper here.. Ugly Man has received his best reviews in the USA. Vanity Fair called Dennis Cooper "a disquieting genius;" the Village Voice, "the most dangerous writer in America;" He has lived in Paris for the past 4 years. Currently he is working on a project with Gisele Vlenne that will be presented next year at Avignon. He says that he is sure some people are going to detest it.

SHOJI FUJII REPORTS FROM KYOTO : F.I.L. KYOTO

Dear Shaded Viewers

The experience of visiting F.I.L. KYOTO was unique.
' Ultramodern ' is the word for it.

352 SHIMO-OSAKA-CHO, NAKAGYO-KU
KYOTO-SHI
KYOTO 604-8025
JAPAN
T : +81 (0)75 . 253 . 0857

They present their own collection ' Visvim ' foot wear, clothing, accessories and fragrance.

director : Hiroki Nakamura
architect : Naohiko Hino
perfumer : Blaise Mautin

As Diane reported while ago the location was a traditional hand made japanese doll maker ' Matsuya ' which was founded in 1664 and it lasted until Hiroki Nakamura opened his F.I.L. in May.
The perfect match of history, beauty, respect and craftsmanship became something extraordinary.

What is so unique is the spirits of the space.
It's definitely not one of ' Using old japanese place to present new products '.
There is something much more respectful and spiritual in the space.

IMG_3201
The window is kept as it was with the beautiful Matsuya doll.
Usually they have flowers by an old lady who has been making the flower arrangement since long time, but as the lady is over 90 years old, it wasn't there for today.

I remember Hiroki's conversation with Diane in Paris about the shop interior.
He mentioned that there was not a big change except floor. He kept the original cabinet to display his collection.

IMG_3169
I admire all the original wooden flames in the store. It's traditional japanese style, minimal beauty.

IMG_3175
It seem everything is so minimalistic and simple, but there are so many details to make it all look good together with the own craft.
I can say the same with their products are so much about the craft and caring the details.

Candles and room spray by Blase Martin.
I tried the
No.04 Glass : fresh, natural and very light
No.05 New born, fresh and little sweeter than No.04
No.06 Chocolate : sweet, but still light
No.07 Kyoto : smells more japanese than others. It suppose to be like smell of ' Sanjyusangendou ' shrine at 9am. I will try to visit the shrine later.

They have the first floor for special clients & meetings.

Juliane Lorenz on Fassbinder's "single take" approach

Fassbinder has always been in my top 5, thought you might be interested in hearing about his "single take" approach to filmmaking.

When I was a designer I dreamed of working with Fassbinder, the closest I ever got to that was doing the costumes for an Amos Gitai film where my job was to dress the two principal actors: Hannah Schygulla and Vittorio Mezzogiorno. This involved a visit to Hannah Schygulla's apartment in Paris and a look through her closet. When you walked in the door the first thing facing you was a portrait of Fassbinder.

20 SECONDS TO WIGSTOCK by Vincent Gagliostro screens at ASVOFF 2

20SECTOWDSTK-3

Dear Shaded Viewers,

20SECTOWDSTK-8

In the mid-90's director Vincent Gagliostro had two friends, Scott and Tim, and he decided to document their first venture into drag for the upcoming WIGSTOCK. Feeling rather nostalgic at the moment for those times gone by, Vincent un-earthed the footage and made this little documentary. Vincent Gagliostro has in the last two decades created a defining style of communication seen around the globe that has proven powerfully effective. With his "in your face", (New York Magazine) graphics he made as a founding member of ACT UP and as a member of the political art collective GRAN FURY to his ephemerally disciplined paintings, a preoccupation with and a preference for good design that underlines all of Gagliostro's work, he has landed in the collections of MOMA, NY, Metropolitan Museum, NY, Whitney Museum, NY, to name a few. He currently devotes most of his time to filmmaking, and is preparing a major installation of a new work in both Paris and New York, as well as completing the script for his directorial debut of a feature film, titled, AFTER LOUIE.
