CATHEDRALE D'IMAGES Ana Escobar Reporting
Dear Diane and viewers!
On a recent trip to the South of France I discovered an amazing place... I was already impressed by the beauty of the landscape at the Baux de Provence and the remains of the medieval city, but my visit got even more exiting when I arrived to the Cathedrale d'images.
As you can read on the site http://www.avignon-et-provence.com/provence-tourism/cathedrale-images-baux-provence/index.html, In 1975, Albert Plecy visited the Val d'Enfer's (Hell Valley) an impressive limestone quarries in Les baux de Provence. Captivated by the area's beauty, he decided to use it to show the results of his research on the "Image Totale". This long-standing experiment on the use and the effect takes the visitor to the very heart of a universe of images.
Over the years many people have come to see an ever-changing show and to feel the almost religious peacefulness of the cool galleries tinged by colorful frescoes.
The exhibitions change every year and since February 2009 Gianfranco Lannuzzi and Renato Gatto took the challenge to revisit picasso's work "...from Neo-Classicism to the many types of cubism, form the blue and pink periods to the explosion of colors and shapes, showing how the aspiration of the most accomplished painter of the 20th century was a return to the art of a child's drawing..."
"Our ancestors took centuries to construct stone cathedrals. Our Cathedrales d'Images is built from one second to the next".
Albert PLECY
"It is not the Cathedrale d'Images that adapts itself to the picture ; it´s the picture that adapts to this place".
Anne PLECY
If was an amazing experience, music and image all together and off course the pictures can't reflect it, but if you're in the area don't miss it and bring a sweeter because even in the summer you have 14 degrees inside!

Akiko Hamaoka reports from Antwerp on ATELIER SOLARSHOP
Dear Diane, Dear Shaded Viewers,
After ASVOFF, I am taking a few days off to visit Antwerp where I used to live for 4 years to visit my friends. Today I visited ATELIER SOLARSHOP to see Pietro and Jan-Jan. ATELIER SOLARSHOP is a platform for young creatives. The former solar panel shop in the centre of Antwerp offers young designers and artists a multifunctional space which can be used an atelier, gallery or showroom. Now they have a one month pop-up store to present an exclusive collection of products designed by artists around the world. It is open only until 3rd October - so if you are in Antwerp you should check it out.

Hormazd Narielwalla-New Work-'A Study on Anansi
From Oct 10-21st the latest work of Hormazd Geve Narielwalla, 'A Study on Anansi" will be presented at Paul Smith's furnishing gallery No 9 Albemarie Street, London W1. The work draws inspiration from two sorces: Saville Row tailoring patterns and traditional African Anansi tales to create a new body of work. THese patterns were the main inspiration for his first artist book "Dead Man's Patterns" produced in association with Saville Row military tailors Dege & Skinner.
For this work Narielwalla's uses scans, photography, his own sketches and digital composition to create a set of playful artworks that have a traditional look and appeal. Hormazd has been awarded an international scholarship to read a Doctorate in Philosophy at London College of Fashion and his main focus will be on pattern cutting as Art and he will work closely with the National Army museum researching the military pattrns. www.dege-skinner.co.uk Creating bespoke clothes for the rich and powerful has made Saville Row iconic but in this evocative work Narielwalla is showing us tailoring patterns, as they have never been seen. The patterns are reinterpreted and resurrected; the lives of people measured through tailoring are brought back to life as works of art through even older tales from another world.Later,
Diane
