SR.MARCELO HORACIO MAQUIEIRA REPORTS ON Étranger A/W20101 – LIFU HSIAO
So many sensations
were on board: the garments, the music and the place. From I want you (Madonna) to Without you (Harry
Nilsson) including Glenn Gould: J.S.Bach & Golberg Variations. Étranger was
presented under one of Amsterdam’s most elegant bridges at the Singel canal, the
city border in the middle ages. Built in 1480, the Jan Roodenpoorts tower was
demolished in 1829; today its outlines are marked on the road surface over the
bridge.
And then Hsiao’s
collection was sharply defined: clean lines and sometimes an egg shape making
you dream and almost pray.
Very raw and sexy,
but at the same time enough decency evaporated during the show. There was a
religious breeze evoking one of the designer’s fascinations, the way the Amish
treat their wardrobe. Oblique shoulders topping A shape silhouettes, all a bit
-holy and rustic as he said.
Colors: yellow,
blue, brown. And the strong black and white in pure shapes, all very dignified.
My favorites: a
grey herringbone wool dress, and the broken piano keys decorating those
feminine proposals.
With Étranger,
Lifu Hsiao proved his role as debutant last Friday night during the AmsterdamFashion
Week. A handwriting to keep tracking.
