On Friday, Philip Glass, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith with Jesse Smith, Lenny Kaye, Regina Spektor, Bajah + The Dry Eve Crew, Tenzin Kunsel, Pierce Turner and the Monks From The Drepung Gomang Monastery rocked Carnegie Hall for the 20th Annual Benefit for the Tibet House US, a non-profit organization charged with preserving Tibetan culture.

Patti Smith (The Goddess Of Punk) At Carnegie Hall 2010 by Dustin Pittman

People know how much I love photographing Backstage Fashion at the Shows In New York, London, Milan and Paris. So I took a "time out" from the "fashionistas" and "fashion Paparazzi" and headed to New York's Carnegie Hall to be with the Drepung Gomang Monastery and my friends, Iggy, Patty and Lenny to celebrate the New Year:  "The Year of the Iron Tiger".

AND WHAT A "VIBE" IT WAS........

Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello's electrifying performance got people on their feet.

Patti Smith opened up her set singing the classic O'Jay's song, "Love Train" following it with "Gloria", which got everyone jumping from there seats and running to the stage.

Iggy rocked out "shirtless" on stage singing "The Passenger" then dived into the screaming crowd singing "I Want To Be Your Dog". This had to be a first for Carnegie Hall and the Tibet House.

Tenzin Kunsel, the 15 year old Tibetan refugee who moved to the United States in 2003, performed a Tibetan aria, backed by the Patti Smith Group.

A beautiful moment of the night came when Robert A. F. Thurman, the President and one of the co-founders of the Tibet House, kissed Patti Smith's hand, an expression of "inner love and beauty" for "peace around the world".  Afterward, we all headed down to Gotham Hall for a buffet dinner party.

GUCCI F/W 10 - PHOTOS BY SONNY VANDEVELDE TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Frida Giannini's collection at Gucci this year was surprisingly plain and minimal, apart from the occasional flash of fur and gold. She stuck to neutral tones and offered desirable, daywear pieces that will gain her some new fans.

Dear Shaded Viewers,

The big news at Armani this season? Upbeat, exuberant, full on colour! The Italian maestro put on a strong show where he spiced up his classic tailoring with unusual prints, luscious velvets and vibrant shades. It was nice to see him move away from his comfort zone to embrace a lighter, happier mood. Bravo Giorgio!

ETRO F/W 10 - PHOTOS BY SONNY VANDEVELDE TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

There may have been a new wind of sobriety blowing on some Milan catwalks this week, but don't expect Etro to go minimal on their audience just yet. Their collection was high on trademark paisley prints, shiny satins and silks, as well as traditional Chinese details giving the clothes a well-travelled, contemporary vibe. It was one of their strongest shows to date, focusing on individual, luxurious and feminine pieces, without renouncing their witty and slightly off-kilter approach.

I loved some of the evening looks, particularly the one-shoulder satin numbers.

Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week - Part II - David Delfin and Lydia Delgado

David Delfin, who recently showed during New York Fashion Week for a second season, brought his collection back home to Cibeles last week. Known for his severe tailoring and its monastic appeal, Delfin injected strong doses of color into his predominant palette of grey and white. Pieces of garments migrated to unexpected places, experiments in deconstruction that made for more interesting menswear than womenswear. Eleonora Bose, a Spanish androgyne who became famous thanks to Tom Ford during his Gucci days, opened the show to raucous applause, and her orange hair was mirrored by a male model who came out shortly after. Delfin deserves the attention he's received in recent years, but he'd benefit from lightening up a little. Fashion's move towards the minimal suits his signature aesthetic, but minimalism today is a much less self-serious affair than in previous decades, and the rise of fast-fashion and sportswear means that consumers are looking for versatile pieces that work in a variety of situations. Delfin's witty constructions feel a bit removed from real-life - if he can find a way to transmute that preciousness into a more practical form his appeal would certainly expand.

Lydia Delgado was a name I wasn't familiar with, but I'm so glad I saw her show. Her quirky aesthetic, which shows Prada's influence in its proportions and its riffs off of feminine cliches, is made uniquely her own by her pop sensibility. Small details on garments - a zipper, a subtle drape, an applique - speak loudly to Delgado's talent. Standout accessories included fur hats, platform sandals, and sunglasses. Hopefully international buyers and editors will take more notice of her work. She has a broad appeal, and like Alphaville, there's no doubt that she'd be big in Japan.

High Life: Putting on the Ritz (hotel)

Greetings from Madrid, where temperature is a balmy 52 degrees Fahrenheit, which after the most brutal winter Berlin has seen in twenty years, seems positively tropical. I came to attend the 51st edition of Cibeles Fashion Week, which began today, but I thought I´d fly over a couple of days early to check out the city´s poshest hotel, the Ritz.

Lobby
 Junior Suite

Founded by Cesar Ritz, the famous proprietor of the Paris and London branches of the Ritz, the Madrid outpost is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, but it isn´t showing its age in the slightest. Its ultra-central location, just opposite the unbelievable treasure trove of the Prado Museum can´t be beat, and from the moment you step through the rotating doors, you´re transported back in time to a more elegant age. Surfaces are gilded, but not overdone, and ´good taste´reigns supreme, from the shimmering crystal chandeliers to the soft cream and champagne silks.

Garden 3

Façade 1

I usually tend to prefer hotels with a more contemporary aesthetic, but in the case of the Ritz it´s so well-done that I couldn´t help but be swayed by its old-fashioned charm. Unlike newer properties that try to copy an old-school decor scheme by piling on the gold-plate and Carrera marble, the Ritz is the real thing and errs in favor of understatement. My suite, overlooking the sculpted grounds of the Prado, was rich in texture and fabric and color with a long narrow balcony and chic white and gilt bathroom. Original period details dominate, from antique push buttons to summon maid service to fascinating old photographs.

Deluxe Room
Garden 1

Breakfast, a lavish spread that made me reconsider my usual skipping of the first meal of the day, is served in the Restaurant Goya, with massive windows looking onto greenery. On the second night I booked a table for dinner. By the end I had reconsidered my not-so-flattering ideas about Spanish food. Usually I picture over-salted tapas and while i do like paella, it´s nice to have more than one appealing menu option. At the Goya I found plenty. Luckily they offered half portions, since I ordered 4 dishes. First was a Red Shrimp Carpaccio... I´ve had all kinds of carpaccio before, but never shrimp, and I don´t understand why it´s not served more often. Then the Grilled Oysters with Lemon FoamX arrived, another surprising flavor combination of sweet, sour and sea salt, followed by Cured Ham and Scallop Rolls, which put a Spanish staple to novel use in a play off a handroll - no nori here, but their famous ham instead. My last course was Roasted Suckling Pig, a Spanish classic and specialty of the Goya. I´m glad I´m not a vegetarian.

The hotel also has a spa which I didn´t have time to visit, as well as a grand triple-height lounge off the lobby which is one of Madrid´s social epicenters. Grande dames come to take high tea, business potentates have civilized meetings and lucky tourists sit and take it all in, enjoying the kind of glamour they just don't make anymore.
