Am.e.n a project by Kristian Guerra menswear collection
Dear Shaded Viewers,
The shapes and volumes of Kristian Guerra's collection resemble totems and are a reflection on sportswear which begins with the selected fabric treatment. Kristian uses a process of combustion by which the traced shapes are impressed onto the material, enriching the surface and giving a new vitality to the warer. Each look combines technical elements with sportswear references, creating exaggerated hybrids and altering the propositions of the body by projecting it sky high. The obsessive movement of the hands brings life and form to the menswear collection. Intertwined hands become highly structured puffer jackets.
Kristian Guerra was born in Padua in 1988 and received his BA in Fashion Design, Faculty of Arts & Design, IUAV University of Venice, Italy. Before that he attended the Arts College "A.Modigliani, Padua, Italy. He won a "fashion special prize" at ITS10 and the D-La Repubblica Award.

Diane

Getting ready for Perth and my first trip to Australia and hopefully encountering a few laughing Kookaburras
Portal + Zekka are presenting HIC et NUNC and selected works by Graham Tabor and Miguel Villalobos and I am a special guest and ASVOFF is also invited to screen at Perth Cultural Centre in less than two weeks as a guest of Portal + Zekka. Konstantinos Menelaou will also be there and Sonny Vandevelde and his girlfriend Jacqui will also fly in. Miguel sent me this photo of the Kookaburras. They are very large 28-42 cm called terrestrial kingfishers and hail from Australia and New Guinea. I wonder if we will run into any while we are there. Supposedly they have an unmistakable call which sounds a lot like loud, echoing human laughter. They are a little hysterical and have been renamed as Laughing Kookaburras.
I love their shape and if we are lucky maybe we'll hear their laughter.

Pablo Goldbarg writes about Argentine Filmmaker Lucrecia Martel in Sarajevo: “Avoiding obviousness I discover other things”
My first introduction to the work of Argentine Filmmaker Lucrecia Martel was when I posted the new Miu Miu film directed by her. It was amazing and I regret that I did not know about her work sooner. Anyway, I do now and so do you.

JEAN PAUL LESPAGNARD INSTALLATION AT RA IN AUGUST
Dear Diane and dear Shaded Viewers,
For the month of August, RA in Antwerp is hosting an installation by Brussels based designer Jean Paul Lespagnard. The installation whith the title "4 times 2 silhouettes and 2 portraits of me" will feature a selection of silhouettes from his past collections and also outfits from his latest A/W 11-12 collection "I Could Be Yours!", the first women's ready-to-wear collection he presented during Paris Fashion Week in March 2011.
Lespagnard: "Most of the pieces you will see are 'working clothes'. I mean that I'm using these pieces every time I design a new collection. So you will see details (pockets, animal prints, snaps...) passing from one collection to the next or the one after. This is why you'll see that not all the pieces are clean because of the no-sleep-night coffe and all the manipulations and travels and photo shoots etc etc. These are living pieces. These are the tools to find key words to communicate with my public. And the portraits are just simple portraits of me dressed as Maya The Bee in Mexico, the country of the Mayan people."
His installation is to be seen at RA, Kloosterstraat 13 in Antwerp from now until end of August!

Marco de Rivera reports on “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’’ last days ...
“Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty’’ at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a “celebration of the designer’s wild, unfettered and dark imagination: gothic Victoriana, dresses tufted with blood-red feathers, decorated with dying flowers or rattling with clamshells,’’ Suzy Menkes writes. Mr. McQueen died last year.
