HAPPY HALLOWEEN FROM NYC

Leaving spooky soft-core sculptures on random NYC streets at odd hours seems to be the new graffiti over here. These two were my favorites for this particularly delightfully disturbing day. BOO!

Halloween Extravaganza at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York. Photos & text by Glenn Belverio

P1060739

Dear Shaded Viewers,

On Friday night my friend Christine and I celebrated Halloween at my favorite church, up on 112th street in Manhattan. The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is the most liberal, most artistic, most eccentric church I know of. It's always had a special place in my heart ever since they hosted a performance of Diamanda Galas' AIDS piece "The Plague Mass" back in my early days of living in New York when I was an activist in ACT UP. Every year near Halloween they show a creepy silent film accompanied by live music from the Great Organ in the massively cavernous worship hall. This year the film was the 1925 version of "Phantom of the Opera" starring Lon Cheney.

We were greeted by this macabre cello player by the entrance.

After the film, the Procession of the Ghouls began....

Yayoi Kusama at Tabloid Gallery in Tokyo

Nthe bike DP

Dear Yayoi,

The exhibition that took place at the TABLOID Gallery in Tokyo just before the ASVOFF 4 screening was none other than Yayoi Kusama. One of these trips to TOkyo I would love to meet her. Currently you can enjoy her exhibition at Centre Pompidou.

As a paper collector, I really want to have those paper. Mino (old name for the area of Gifu prefecture) has been very famous for Japanese paper since 8th century - now they are making products with modern concept by Hiroko Takahashi "FOLIO 3120".

Right after the TIDE EXHIBITION, there is TIDE MARKET where people can actually BUY the products - the area which is very dangerous for me...

I met Kentaro Tamai from ex-writtenafterwards designer who is now designing ASEEDONCLÖUD. Kentaro was working the booth of seeds - the project to support the desaster of 3.11 Great Tohoku earthquake. Seeds was founded in 2011 by a team of volunteers from various design-related fields. Utilizing their skills and knowledge in editing, manufacturing, and the distribution process, they propose new, organic designs.

Seeds

seeds - for 300yen, we can buy the rape seeds which were not be able to be planted due to radio active contamination issues or the simple decline of sales.

"Seeds" is a project in which they edit the package design of the unsold seeds to recirculate them in the market. The project also aims to reconstruct the relationships between the consumers and the suffering farms. Profits will be donated to the affected farms hoping that this will accelerate reconstruction. From a one hand to another, from a person to another- from these activities, stronger relationships will sprout like flowers. (from seeds)

Since I saw this PORCELAIN WEAR collection of Theater Products, I have wanted to buy them. I really want to have the cup and tray with flower print, but it is too much over my budget... Instead, I took back 1/4 handkerchief plate with print. Hope some day soon before their stock will run out, I will be able to get the cup and tray.....

SOME SNAPSHOTS FROM PARCOURS MODO IN BRUSSELS - TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY VINCENT DECHAMPS

Alice Knackfuss' models posing on the second floor of L'Archiduc

Dear Shaded Viewers,

During one weekend in October, Brussels becomes an interactive platform for designers and fashionistas, giving new names the opportunity to showcase their work throughout the city. This year's edition -under the artistic direction of Didier Vervaeren- was a great success, emphasizing the capital's energy and arty approach. I loved Céline De Schepper's installation at Hunting and Collecting, which was beautiful.

DSCN1619

Parcours Modo offers an opportunity for designers to meet their clients. Marc-Philippe Coudeyre was entertaining friends and fans at MAPP.-one of the city's finest stores.

DSCN1587

I was struck by Le Bestiaire's jewelry pieces and Alexandra Sebbag's black installation at Espace Bizarre. In fact, I liked both their collections so much I'll introduce them to you later.

Best,

Philippe

THE PREVIEW OF “NUPTUS”, SPRING/SUMMER 2012 COLLECTION BY SYLVIO GIARDINA, TEXT BY NUNZIA GAROFFOLO, PHOTOS BY SEVERINE QUEYRAS

Nsylvio 1

The preview of "Nuptus"  successfully follows the work of Sylvio Giardina under the sign of avant-garde suggestions, searching for new silhouettes, futuristic volumes and innovative materials, inspired by the idea of sphericity, enhancing the female silhouette and joining the best tradition of Italian sartorialism. The collection is photographed by Severine Queyras.

The sculpted creations are made of  polyethylene foam and jersey merged into one unique fabric, adorned with Swarovsky crystals which emphasize  the sinuous lines and color palatte which includes  white, black, copper, green, light blue and  a vibrant shade of orange which help

to make the visionary concept of a bright designer concrete.
