Fashion Forward menswear recipients for spring/summer 2013 - text by Silvia Bombardini

Christopher Shannon, AW 2012

Dear Shaded Viewers and Diane,

While sponsorships, just as cuff links or bow ties, may sound these days like sadly forgotten social graces, we will always count on the British not to forget their etiquette.

The British Fashion Council (BFC) has in fact just announced today the names of the four menswear designers who have been awarded Fashion Forward sponsorship to show at the inaugural London Collections: Men in June.

Christopher Shannon

E. Tautz

J.W. Anderson

James Long

Addressing for the first time a group of menswear designers, the Fashion Forward sponsorship will grant them access to business support provided by the BFC as well as a cash prize to assist in showing their spring/summer 2013 collections.

From their profile pages on the BFC's website, they promise collections inspired by the likes of Peter Blake, Josef Albers, explorer Wilfred Thesiger and Emperor Haile Selassie, Kung Fu cowboys or the colour and wildlife of Ethiopia. And with Savile Row just a couple of blocks over and the promising approval of the Council, we have no doubt that they will be outstanding.

Art & Fashion Days Be Next Day 2- dinner and Nunzia Garoffolo's award

P1400006

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I wish you could hear the sound of the Black Sea, so relaxing that I'm hoping it will help put me to sleep tonight. After a day of sight seeing we all met for dinner at the Georgia Palace Hotel. Nunzia Garoffolo was there and showed us all the award she received the night before last. It was for her support to young talents in Italy.

Dear Diane, Dear Shaded Viewers,

Last night was the Award Ceremony for the prestigeous fourth edition of the MANGO Fashion Awards held at the National Art Museum of Catalonia (MNAC) in Barcelona, the biggest prize in international fashion, with the prize being won by the Thai designer Wisharawish Akarasantisook.

Among the finalists who competed for the 300,000 euro prize included the Spanish duo Spastor, the French designer Christine Phung, the Japanese designers Takayuki Tanaka and Motoyuki Matsumoto, the South Korean Haesung Bong, Harvey Bouterse, a Belgian designer, Tuomas Laitinen, of Finnish origin, the German-Swedish duo made up of Stefanie Malgreen de Oliveira and Richard Lindqvist......400 persons attended the ceremony to see the 10 finalists.

The 'botón de oro', an award for a lifetime career, was awarded to the Venezuelan designer Carolina Herrera (Chairwoman of the jury) who was present with Kate Moss.

The event was jointly organised by the five most prestigious design schools in Europe, namely Central St. Martins School of Art and Design, London, Institut Francais de la Mode, Paris, Istituto Marangoni, Milan, Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp and Escola Superior de Disseny, Barcelona, (by the way, all of whom also participated in Diane's ASVOFF Students Fashion Film competition, CaixaForum, Barcelona in January this year)

I'm looking forward to catching up with designer Wisharawish Akarasantisook tomorrow for a special post for you Diane....I'm also waiting for the interview with kate Moss, which i believe should be online any moment, can't wait to see that!

An ancient technique carried on by the students in the art and design school in Batumi

Dear Shaded Viewers,

After visiting the museums we went to visit the students at the art school in Batumi.

This was one of the sets in the atelier for the students of costume design. It was here Robb and I found a little property that we decided to invest in and the first of our Double Trouble shots.

ART & Fashion Days Be Next Day 2

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Now that I know it took my friend Robb Young 28 hours to get to Batumi from London, I stop complaining about my long trip from Vienna. Last night Robb and I were too exhausted even to say hi so this morning we met at 9h for breakfast in the lovely Georgia Palace Hotel.
