European Fashion Award FASH 2013 at ISPO -- and the winners are...

Although Berlin reigns supreme as Germany's undisputed fashion capital, Munich now has something to boast about.  Beyond the predictable gilded department stores and ancient furriers that fill the charming city centre lies the massive Messe München expo space on the very edge of town.  It is here where the SDBI (German Fashion Industry Foundation) sets the stage for its annual European Fashion Award FASH, a handful of prizes awarded to fashion students and recent graduates from around Europe.

The award is gaining traction as a barometer for talent fresh out of school -- especially in central Europe -- thanks to an unlikely but inspirational partnership between the SDBI's Joachim Schirrmacher and Tobias Gröber of ISPO, the colossal trade show where global sports wear industry brands converge to present their latest performance and lifestyle gear for skaters, snowboarders, rock climbers, surfers, athletes and every kind of activity imaginable.

The theme of this year's contest was a thought-provoking perspective on gender which Schirrmacher called 'SEXes'.  Designers were asked to concoct a new fashion image for men which, in turn, reveals new images for women -- and to ponder the following questions: "Are men the new fashion victims? Are men afraid of beauty? How important is erotic capital to their style and their identity? Are fathers the new mothers? Does the classic guy have a future? In other words: what makes a man? And what does he look like?"
