I've arrived at the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Hotel in Aswan, Egypt. Photos by Glenn Belverio
I have been transported into the Egytian past and paradise. Built in 1899, this is the hotel where Agatha Christie's "Death on the Nile" was written and filmed. They have generously put me in a very large Prestige Suite (it even has a seperate office and TWO walk-in closets) with a long terrace, above, with a panoramic view of the Nile, Elphantine Island, and the Nubian Desert. Tomorrow I'm visiting the Ruins of Abu and two Nubian villages on the island; Saturday I will go to Abu Simbel. Earlier I was listening to the Nubians drumming on the island; now the soundrack is the Muslim call to prayer from the lovely mosque next door.
The ruins of Abu are off to the right.

After I'm done with my holiday and return to NYC I will post my reports on Cairo's Fashion Nights organized by Susan Sabet and some amazing Egyptian jewelry designers I met...
