IQONS Magazine in Magazine Numero 44 april - may
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I opened my mailbox today and found the latest issue of Magazine. I always appreciate Magazine and was just paging through it when I came upon an article on Iqons Magazine.
Angelo Cirimele is the Editor in Chief of Magazine which is dedicated to analyzing magazines, art, literature and culture. His critic made me smile including the last line about Sebastian as a most appropriate sponsor for the first issue.
Thank you Angelo.

Dear SHaded Viewers,
We met at the Dover Street Market around Christmas, he had done the windows, I loved them. If you go into my archives for last December you will find some of his earlier work. I was really happy when I saw this wicked spread on him in the current issue of AnOther Man.

Zoo Magazine wins Golden Lead Award 2008 for Portrait Photography of the Year
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Zoo Magazine wins Golden LeadAward 2008 for Portrait Photography of the Year
At the 16th annual LeadAwards ceremony held in Hamburg, Germany on March 5th, international style title Zoo Magazine was honored with a Golden LeadAward for its photo shoot of Hollywood actor John Malkovich. Featured in Zoo No. 13, and photographed by Vicki Russell, the striking spread won first prize in the Portrait Photography of the Year category. The prize marks the fourth LeadAward that Zoo has received for its quality fashion shoots.
Authority
Established in 1992, the LeadAwards is the most influential and authoritative recognition of talent in Germany’s media, advertising and marketing industries. Nominees are pre-selected by the LeadAwards team before being presented to a prominent jury of A-list photographers from Germany’s top magazines including Bild, Der Spiegel, Stern and Vogue.
The world’s best photographers
Zoo Magazine first appeared in 2003, and has been published quarterly since 2004. Published jointly by renowned musician/photographer Bryan Adams and Sandor Lubbe – best known for publishing Dutch (1994-2002) – Zoo features the work of some of the world’s top photographers, including Steven Klein, David LaChapelle, Terry Richardson, Hedi Slimane, Karl Lagerfeld and Nobuyoshi Araki. The subjects they have covered have been equally famous: Venus Williams, Madonna, Morrissey, Mickey Rourke, Courtney Love, Dustin Hoffman, Emmanuelle Seigner, Lindsay Lohan and Amy Winehouse, to name a few.
Cinematic blueprint
The current issue of Zoo Magazine, launched during the 58th Berlin International Film Festival, is the follow-up to last year’s special Cinema Issue, which featured the award-winning John Malkovich shoot. The latest edition, a blueprint of today’s cinematic avant-garde with references to today’s best fashion movers and makers, features some of the world’s most exciting cinematic personalities such as Nina Hoss, Sandra Hüller, Diane Kruger, Clémence Poésy, Franka Potente, Oskar Roehler, Omar Sharif and Christian Slater. Each photo shoot is accompanied by exclusive, in-depth interviews. Also in this edition are interviews with veteran filmmaker Michael Haneke and French novelist/director Michel Houellebecq. The next issue of Zoo will focus on music, and will be released in May. It will include shoots with Mick Jagger, Cat Power and Billy Idol.

Le Monde and internet advertising
Dear Shaded Viewers,
My friend, David Herman from Standard sent me this article he found in Le Monde about the 56% rise in internet advertising in 2007. I don't know how your French is but basically it says that based on a survey that there are twice as many advertisers on internet than on tv. It says that even though it is early to predict what will happen in 2008, it does not look like the trend for advertising on the internet is likely to change.

AnOther Magazine/Uma cover and opening for Matt Irwin
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I just received an advance copy of AnOther Magazine with the beautiful Uma on the cover.
UMA by Craig McDean
I especially liked the article and images on Angelica Houston and the work of Swiss artist Urs Fischer titled Gavin Brown's You or the resurrection and the grave.
If you are going to be in London next week you might want to rsvp for Matt Irwin's opening. I love his quote about the eternal truth.

Yagos from Crawford Magazine in Thessaloniki
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Yagos from Crawford Magazine, Thessaloniki and David TV
While I was in Stockholm I received a request for an interview from a new magazine in Thessaloniki. David TV was taking the photo and Yagos did the interview. I met David TV about 7 years ago through a friend so I thought it would be nice to see him again. They suggested the bar at the Pont Royal Hotel on rue Montalember in the 7eme because it was quiet and inviting and indeed it was.

commons&sense new website is launched today
Dear Shaded Viewers,
I am a big fan of commons&sense magazine and have been waiting for their new website to be up, today it was launched.
A message from the editor in chief:
The commons&sense website has finally been launched!
We made the design of our site quite simple and easy to read with loads of content (and more to come!). As editor in chief, I, Kaoru Sasaki, will be posting blog entries and photos, which will (hopefully) be updated everyday!!! (it's an extremely difficult task, but I will do my best.)
Who knows how our website will turn out? ...however, I do feel that there is a lot of possibilities in this format. We want to explore all the things which we cannot do in the magazines!!!
Hope you all enjoy it!

Another Magazine got a face lift
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Another Magazine got a facelift and the new look is working. THe new typeface is great but you will have to buy the magazine to see that. Here is a montage of a preview from the new issue. These two images don't go together, by the way.
There were articles on lots of people that I like: Paulo Melim Andersson, the creative director of Chloe giving his thoughts on polar bears, Andre Walker looking backwards and forwards on fashion and inspiration and Florian Ladstaette with his great accessories. Inner Visions by Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vindoodh Matadin gave us portraits of Flora Cross, Isabella Rossellini, Parker Posey, etc. etc.

Paper from Reims - 5 years with encens
Dear SHaded Viewers,

On the left are the co-founders of encens: Samuel Drira and Sybille Walter
encens is a magazine dedicated to independence and creation. encens is passionate and personal and supportive of those that speak with their own voices and sign their work with their own handwriting.
The magazine celebrated it's 5th year with Paper from Reims and for that they invited a small group of fashion people to an Ancient Jesuites College in Reims. The magazine supported the people that they hold in high esteem with installations and interesting articles: Hermes, Munoz Vrandecic, Kate Moran, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, Marcelline Delbecq and Benoit Delbecq, Fabrics Interseason and Claude Rutault....

I read the magazine cover to cover on the train ride back to Paris and all I can say is Bravo.
My friends Miguel Villalobos and Graham Tabor are back in Paris and we met for dinner. Miguel, I love my snail.

Magazine - Summer issue
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Do you read French? If so, I suggest you start picking up Magazine. Some of the articles are in English, all are insightful and refreshing. You will get an insiders honest view of the publishing world and beyond. I don't see the website but here is the contact: magazinemagazine@gmail.com
I liked the opening editorial, in part," 2 things. the wealth of a man does not reside in his fortune or in his collection but in his intuition."
The cover story looks like it was shot in the most amazing park, I want to go there. It is called Planter Wald and somewhere in Berlin, any German Shaded Viewers know how far this is from the center of Berlin and how I might get there? I will be in Berlin for You Wear it Well on the 13th July.
Magazine offers unbiased comments about other magazines. Is intelligently written but very real.

Pin - UP - the magazine for Architectural Entertainment
Dear Shaded Viewers,
It's not every day that you come across a magazine on architecture and entertainment. The last issue I read had the most interesting article on Rick Owens, the man and his space. This current issue I really enjoyed the article writen by Horacio Silva on Ettore Sottsass, Hanging on the telephone with the design world's grandmaster of flash. The title alone is intriguing. Another highlight was the piece on the Swiss artist, Boris Rebetez that alters our perception of space, one collage at a time. Those are just a few, many more to inspire and enlighten you and the images are breathtaking. The first issue of PIN-UP came out in late October 2006.
You can order the magazine by subscription www.pinupmagazine.org/subscribe or directly to www.bruil.info/pin-up where you can also order single issues.

032c/Berlin Energy Experimentation
A) 032c, 13TH ISSUE "ENERGY EXPERIMENTATION", SUMMER 2007
""The most anticipated release for the summer has also proved to be the
most surprising one: 032c magazine, already an established leader in
design and known for its elegant minimalism, has brought in Cologne-
based art director Mike Meiré (brand eins, Kid's Wear, BMW, Dornbracht)
for its 13th issue. The provocative outcome has ushered in a break from
the norm with an "anti-feuilleton design," as Meiré and editor Joerg Koch
have called it. This is a bold move from the German magazine, which has
inspired a number of imitators in recent years. [...] With fashion designer
Hedi Slimane, industrial designer Konstantin Grcic and Vanity Fair's
Todd Eberle on board, 032c's list of contributors is distinct in its diversity.[...]"

Theo Paijmans, BLEND MAGAZINE
Dear Shaded Viewers,

Thu 03/05/2007 10:23 03052007130
I wanted to meet Theo Paijmans, the editor in chief of Blend magazine before leaving Amsterdam. We were talking and I discovered that he had written a book in the end of the 90's called "Free Energy Pioneer". There is a Japanese pirated edition of his book and if any shaded viewers in Japan could find the edition and send it to him, it would be great. Of course he will reimburse the sender for the postage and purchase of the book. He just would like to have it. You can contact Theo theo@blend.nl. In the future Theo will become the new book editor for ashadedviewonfashion.com.
Later for that and thanks if you can help him find his book.
