MUTATE AW13 / DIEGO ZÚÑIGA
[ M U T A T E . AW13 ]
The homonymous firm of the Mexican designer returns this Fall/Winter 2013 with MUTATE. The starting point is the beetle, an insect that throughout history has been an inspiration for industrial design, architecture and the military world. With eight all-black looks, MUTATE is characterized by oversize pieces, tailored quality and sporty touches. It surprises us with dynamic and original cuts, mesh details, and for the first time in the brand’s history there is a couple of functional accessories (cap and backpack) to create an outfit that reflects the concept perfectly. The collection? Wide-cut blazers with relaxed lapels, sweaters with wide sleeves, pants with big cargo-like pockets, and short wide pants. The textures reflect inspiration and are mixed with the designer’s characteristic black-over-black detail. The fortress, intellect, routine, and strength of the contemporary man is what emerges from this proposal from Zúñiga.

AGI & SAM FOR TOPMAN LAUNCH PARTY AT APARTMENT 58 TEXT BY YASUYUKI ASANO PHOTO BY DAISUKE HASHIHARA
Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,
Last evening I attended the launch party of Topman and Agi & Sam collaboration at Apartment 58 in London.
Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton, the british duo behind Agi and Sam, met while working at Alexander McQueen and started their menswear label a few years ago. Their collection is know for the vibrant prints on sharp-tailored pieces with a great sense of humour, which makes modern charming men. They have already showed 3 collections at MAN, and their first solo show is scheduled on SS14 London Collections: Men on next month.
Inspired by last year's Olympic Games in London, this collection for Topman is titled 'The Owls', whch is a fictional football team by Agi and Sam, and has more sporty feels with iconic prints.
Here are snaps from the playful party.

They've just developed this new travel tool APP, technique called Face Pilates, nice for us jetsetters! Plus really amazing is their detox at home guide, i think i was speaking about this with you and Jason when we last met here for ASVOFF Barcelona.
Looking forward to hearing what you think of the APP Diane,

The Dark Side of the London Olympics, RULE BRITANNIA
I was never really much a fan of VICE magazine in its printed incantation but (as I mentioned in a previous post of their interview of Kenneth Anger) their video content and interviews are getting quite good. I found this investigative doc about Olympics, which for our London viewers I am sure this is all old news, but might be eye opening for others outside. Not exactly the kind of reporting being done on major networks in the States or in Europe. Notice how freaky the robotic missile launchers look with the built in sensors ...
The strange/unfortunate thing is I wanted to post a clip of the opening ceremony with this doc , but its impossible to find. With in the past days since friday, the powers that be have meticulously had all of the clips removed. Only to sell dvds later ? Isn't this an event that the whole world is suppose to celebrate and enjoy ? Or just another excuse to sell more useless crap to people ?

GRIFFIN`S SHOOT WITH STEVE OLSON
I spent the day shooting with Diane and mine, good friend artist, legendary pro skater, and over all madman Steve Olson. Olson was one of the subject of the portrait series book HARMONY that I produced last year for ARC JAPAN. Olson and I are shooting his pieces for a new site that we are creating to feature his work. It will be the first time that his work is available on line for purchase. Ernesto, a director of photography friend of mine, came and helped us with the shoot. Below find some off shots from the shoot as well as a the first video from the STEVE'S RANTS series that will be featured on the site. Check back here for more info on Olson's work and the launch of site soon.
