You Wear it Well 2 at the Tribeca Grand -dinner at Graham Tabor and Miguel Villalobos
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Last night was the New York screening of You Wear it Well 2 in the beautiful screening room of the Tribeca Grand. Thanks to Tommy Saleh and Mandy Brooks for making it happen. The cocktail was fun but I forgot to take any pics and only thought about taking some after the screening was over. I heard a few friends could not get in because the room was packed to capacity.
Before the screening Graham Tabor made a wonderful dinner at home, it is too bad that I rushed everybody through it.

Dinner-Graham Tabor, John Rynski, Pat Kurs, Zaldy and Manu, and afterwards, Kelly Cutrone made a great intro for the screening

Dear Shaded Viewers,
As I am in anything but a good mood today, this made me laugh.
Pretty ugly image but hey, it's with the mayor of LA. Let's call Goodnight, Stockholm by Mathias Montero (Sweden) the winner from LA. A ballot box did not exist but it was obvious that everyone loved this one the most.

You WEAR IT WELL 2: WORLD PREMIER: LOS ANGELES
Dear Shaded Viewers,

Before a tech check at the location for the screening my friend Bobby took me around LA . I liked the Day of the Dead preparations.

You Wear it Well 2 opened with De bordjesdraaier by Freudenthal / Verhagen
The way the screening was organized with BOXeight Presents:"HAVE FAITH IN LA" which holds their fashion shows in the Vibiana LA from Oct. 11-13th on 210 S. Main St. LA, CA 90012, was that they would have a fashion show, a break, dancers then You Wear it Well and then more fashion shows. The first runway event was at 17h Cosa Nostra. Following that we all went over to Dino's super cool flat and then back to Vibiana for the Louis Verdad show followed by You Wear it Well. There is Louis being interviewed before his show. In between was a performance by Hysterica Dance Company.

Booth Moore from the LA Times with her husband and the Mayor was supporting the revival of downtown LA and their fashion scene.
I was really happy to see my friends coming out to support You Wear it Well 2.

Cherry Vanilla and her friend, Michael James O'Brien with Jesus Sandoval

Director Greg Maya and son Nick and Michael James O'Brien, Robin from Cristofoli Press Paris and Tak from Blends

No dinner tonight...Bobby and Rigo Maldonado

The Mayor with Dino and I and BOXeight.

DINO DINCO : A QUICK RECAP / NIGHTCAP
Dammit, Thomas, you're fast. I took a cab straight back to my hotel after the YWIW screening...grabbed some food at the deli next door....went to my room and Thomas had already posted his photos below. Sha-schwing!!!!
Upon my arrival at the Tribeca Grand, I met up with all the Paper Mag people. Diane's longtime friend, the artist Pat Kurs, introduced herself to me. So stylish, so beautiful. She shot a few quick pictures of me before taking hold of my arm and physically directing me to kneel down in front of her. Initially, I thought, "Well, if she wants to get into this right here, so publicly, I mean, it's kinda new for me, but I'm down...." It's not considered cheating if you're traveling, right? She then kneels down in front of me, so that we're both on the floor, eye to eye. Over the noise of the cocktail party, she begins directing me, "Okay, look down, now look up with your eyes. Okay...again." I'm thinking, "Wow, I love her."
SKYE vodka had sponsored the event. That's great if you like vodka, however my experience is that it makes me violent. (The police reports have long been sealed.) Emily from Paper asked me if I wanted a drink and I explained to her my predicament. She's like, "Wow!" I'm like, "Yeah. You don't want that here." She kindly went off to the other bar to get me something else...
David introduced me and I explained quickly what YOU WEAR IT WELL was all about. Not surprisingly, most seemed to be familiar with A Shaded View. I was really happy that Marcelo Krasilcic introduced himself to me, as he seems like someone I should have met a long time ago. Without haste, I started gushing about how much I loved Brazil.
I didn't have time to take any photos but I had asked Pat to do so and it appears that she was working hard. However, I made sure to take this one, asking everyone to wave to Diane:
(It almost looks like a big fat rollercoaster car just about to plummet down a terrifying drop...)
It was cool to hear people clapping after each and every film. At most screenings, people typically wait until the end, as if they're attending the opera. Things were going smoothly, until half the way through the screening, when a young woman decided to try out some new comedy material. She would comment loudly here and there, gaining frequency as the screening went on. Much like an enthusiastic redneck at a local football game, she hollered "Yo....G!!" upon reading the title credit that the model wore a suit by Yohji Yamamoto in the SHOWstudio film with Alexander McQueen. I instantly imagined her wearing one of those foam baseball hats (in turquoise, no less), with two cans of cheap beer suspended atop either side and tubes running from the beer cans and into her mouth. As the film from Maison Martin Margiela ended, a couple of people began to clap until Spice Girl said, "Come onnnnnn, people! Give it up for Marrgiellluhhhhh....!" You can only imagine how many "sssshes" flew around her. "Don't Ssssh me," she declared and mumbled something under her breath.
I was sitting in the backrow, with the uber-lovely Lauren Cerand (of www.luxlotus.com), waiting for someone to retaliate. Upon her next outburst (which escapes me but no less profound that her previous offerings), a young male fashion voice screamed, "Shut up, already!" "No, youuu shut up," she replied, "it's fashion! Shit!" I kept saying to myself over and over, "Please start a fist fight. Please start a fist fight. Please launch sample sale accessories and manpurses across the screening room...."
It would have totally made my night to see an outburst more akin to the dusty sidelines of a demolition derby than one would expect at a tony New York hotel. And so I waited. And waited. I even waited through the guy who felt the need to make loud orgasm sounds (with his mouth, I think) through the silent "Sylvain Fuckin' Hostile" film. (He garnered way more laughs than Spice Girl, in case you're keeping score.) But alas, these weren't cholas from rival gangs at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet, arming themselves to duke it out while "Led Zepagain" (the Led Zepplin tribute band) filled the air with "Stairway to Heaven." These were sophisticated fans of fashion and film, so I'm guessing they settled the matter on the dancefloor, with Diplo watching from above and playing an unreleased single from M.I.A.

A big thanks to David, Kim, Mickey, Carol, Kris and Emily at Paper Magazine for having YOU WEAR IT WELL as part of their unHollywood Festival. Let's do it again for YOU WEAR IT WELL 2.

Shoes is the winner at You Wear it Well (both screenings) - Iguatemi FilmeFashion and the rest of the day in Sao Paulo
Dear Shaded Viewers,

We had our second screening this afternoon in Sao Paulo and again SHOES came in first. Proving once again, that fashion people want to laugh. The still is from Ruben Toledo's Fashionation.
Later Dino, Rigoberto and I decided to visit little Tokyo, that is where we found the Black Virgin wearing a mirrored cape. We will all be carrying her back with us in our hand luggage.
At the end of a big place we found a wonderful church and entered just when the choir was singing. When we left there was a large woman with a terrible voice and a prayer book gathering a rather large crowd around her in the town's square proving that anyone can be a star. We all thought immediately of a scene out of Santa Sangre by Jodorowsky.
I did not take many images today knowing that Dino was documenting our journey and hopefully will post some himself.

Eva Lindemann and Beto before the Bruce Weber films screening and discussion to a standing room only crowd.
I went back to Iguatemi FilmeFashion in time to watch the Bruce Weber presentation by Eva Lindemann.Maybe you already know this, but Bruce Weber is working on a new film about Robert Mitchem and in addition to that and 5 other short films he is also creating his own fashion brand. One of the films we saw was his new ad.
I was supposed to look at an accessories collection and have dinner but was too exhausted to do either.

You Wear it Well screening on the 24th at 19h30 at the Iguatemi Filme Fashion Cinema Brasileiro 24-30 August
Dear Shaded Viewers,
We screened You Wear it Well tonight at Iguatemi FilmeFashion but before that I watched the Bruce Weber films and Lagerfeld Confidential.

Alexandra Farah, curator of Iguatemi FilmeFashion with Oscar Metsavaht, the founder of the label Osklen.

Outside of the Lagerfeld Confidential screening I had a little chat with Brazil's youngest designer, Pedro Lourenço, son of two of the biggest designer names in SP, Gloria Coelho and Reinaldo Lourenço. He told me that the first time he saw me was at a Junya Watanabe show when he was 5 years old.
My friend Robb Young did the post on Wales and I've been missing him so for lunch I went to his favorite spot, the Z Deli. Before that I visited Daslu, it is what I imagine Villa Moda to be like complete with the helicopter landing on the roof. I forgot to take pictures when I was there.

Alexandra Farah, curator presented our films

After the films we held a little discussion. We did an informal voting and SHOES came in first, once again. Conclusion, people like to laugh.
After the screening it was off to the Unique Hotel with Penny and Barry Martin and then on our way back to the hotel I spotted Easy Rider.

I had every intention to go to the parties tonight with Alexandra Farah but in the end...opted for my bed. It's 1h30 and Rigoberto and Dino are on route to the party so maybe Dino will post some pics when he gets in. I was told this was the place to go to see the real club kids of Sao Paulo, I want to go, but ...I just cannot.

DAY 2 Sao Paulo - Iguatemi FilmeFashion
Dear Shaded Viewers,
Yesterday we experienced the luxury part of Sao Paulo today we wanted to explore downtown so our first stop was the central market. Just before we were about to exit the taxi, Rigoberto removes his paper straw hat because he thought that way he would be more likely to just blend in. I could not stop laughing, he put his hat back on. Dino said no one would notice him even if he was wearing a bunny suit when he was walking with me.

Dino was putting together his summer look and Rigoberto went crazy for the bowties and what do your think about the mouse pads?

You could say that I caused a bit of a stir today in down town Sao Paulo.
The opening cocktail for Iguatemi FilmeFashion

Rigoberto, Dino and Beto Amaral at the entrance

Beto Amaral, producer and Alexandra Farah, curator of FilmeFashion.

Pedro Igor, producer and Penny Martin,SHOWstudio, and Barry Martin.

Dino was thinking that this could be a good new look for him. Along with the films, the soap operas and other interactive fun, costumes from films are on display.

Dear Shaded Viewers,
Dino and I are in Sao Paulo for the Iguatemi filmefashion festival. You Wear it Well screens at 13h30 on the 26th at the Space IFF and the opening cocktail is tomorrow night.
Above is the view from my window around 5h30 this morning when I arrived at the hotel.

We are still looking forward to meeting Alexandra Farah, the curator of the festival. After lunch we went to see the preparations for the event.
